Chateau Campot-Lafon, Bordeaux
We often hear of the ‘crisis’ in Bordeaux, affecting the many producers who are not amongst the elite group of ‘Classified’ Growths who can set a price often hundreds of times higher than those achieved for generic Bordeaux.
The fact of the matter though is that much of this generic Bordeaux isn’t up to much – quality is very variable and pricing doesn’t always reflect quality. Therefore it’s always a very pleasant surprise to come across something that delivers good value and quality – and is from Bordeaux!
This is a supple blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon giving a mellow, fruit forward Bordeaux with none of the harsh tannins or astringency often associated with the region. It also comes in a distinctive angular bottle and is an outstanding entry level Bordeaux.
